Sandalus Quartzite Beneficiation Techniques

The Sandalus Quartzite is a material of high aesthetic and technical value, combining hardness, durability, and natural beauty. Its appearance, marked by dark veins and dynamic texture, makes it highly sought after in high-end architectural projects,especially when sophistication and exclusivity are desired.. Its mineral composition contains over 90% quartz, Iron oxides contribute brown and golden hues, while micas and ferromagnesian minerals form dark streaks and bands with a dynamic appearance, accessory minerals such as garnet, tourmaline, or zircon can also be found in trace amounts. This mix of textures and tones gives the material a wood-like aspect. Its high quartz content makes it extremely resistant to scratches, ideal for high-traffic areas.

Processing Data

The material has low porosity, and due to its coloration, frequent sealing is not necessary. Reapplication is recommended every three years or when the first signs of water absorption appear.

Cutting Method: to ensure cutting quality, we recommend using diamond blades, cup saws, and grinding wheels made with soft metallic bonds. In Brazil, we suggest Performance Model PS 5 – 350mm, • Rocha Distribuidora Model: Standard Diamond Blade for Nano Glass.

Sealing at cutting areas: Because it is a material with very low water absorption and low porosity, we recommend sealing only the edges of the slabs when installed in outdoor areas.

Adhesive bonding: to ensure the best adhesion quality, we recommend the following adhesives:

Brazil and abroad: Platinum – AKEMI, Titanium – Tenax, Spezial Tak – Bellinzoni

Note: Always follow the manufacturer’s specified ratio of adhesive and hardener. At mild temperatures, curing time may increase. It is important to remove the protective mesh at the cutting area to ensure full adhesion.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR INSTALLERS

Installation of vertical panels: For the installation of wall panels, backsplashes, and baseboards, we recommend using polyurethane adhesive (PU 40). The wall surface must be level and free of dust or debris. After applying PU 40, allow the curing time recommended by the manufacturer before use. For mortar applications, always use white ACII-type mortar from the brands listed below.

Product recommendation: Hybrid glue AK 100 – AKEMI, TK PU40 white – AKEMI, PU 40 multi gray – Barone, PU 40 – Tekbond

Floor installation: For indoor and outdoor flooring, use mortar with high chemical adhesion and flexible properties. For joints, use flexible and waterproof grout. Although this stone is very hard, it has low thermal expansion, so expansion joints between floor tiles and between floor and wall must always be respected.

Post-installation cleaning and protection: Cleaning All post-installation cleaning should be done with water and neutral detergent to remove residues. Acidic detergents must never be used, as they can damage the protective sealant and the resin layer applied to the stone’s pores and fissures.

Recommended cleaners: Post-Construction Floor Cleaner – Bellinzoni, PCS Alkaline – Piso Clean, Basic Cleaner – AKEMI, Alka Flor – Chemistone

Post-construction protection: For this material, the use of water-repellent sealers after installation is not necessary. Cleaning with water and neutral detergent is sufficient.
