Sandalus Quartzite Beneficiation Techniques

The Sandalus Quartzite is a material of high aesthetic and technical value, combining hardness, resistance, and natural beauty. Its dark-veined appearance and dynamic texture make it highly sought after in high architectural standard, especially when the customer is looking for sophistication and exclusivity. Its mineralogical composition has more than 90% quartz, iron oxides add brown and golden tones, micas and iron-magnesian minerals provide dark veins and bands, with a dynamic appearance, accessory minerals Traces of garnet, tourmaline, and zircon are also found in its composition. This mix of textures and colors gives this material a woody appearance. Its high quartz content makes it highly scratch-resistant, perfect for high-traffic areas.

Beneficiation data

The material has low porosity which, combined with its color, reduces the need for frequent waterproofing, requiring an application every 3 years of use or when the first signs of water percolation appear.

Cutting methodology: to ensure the quality of cuts and grinding, we recommend diamond discs, saws, cups and grinding wheels made of soft metal alloy. In Brazil, we recommend tools from Performance Model PS 5 – 350mm, Rocha Distribuidora model Normal diamond saw for Nano Glass.

Waterproofing in the cutting area: As this is a product with very low water absorption and few pores, we recommend waterproofing only the edges of the floors when installed in external areas.

Gluing the pieces: To ensure the quality of the gluing of the pieces, we recommend the following glues:

Brazil and abroad: Platinum – AKEMI, Titanium – Tenax, Spezial tak – Bellinzonni

NOTE: It's important to strictly follow the manufacturer's recommended glue-catalyst ratio. Remember that in mild temperatures, the glue requires a little more time to cure. It's important to remove the protective screen at the cutting site to ensure full adhesion of the glue.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE INSTALLER

Laying of parts on vertical panels. For installing vertical panels, bench tops, and baseboards, we recommend using PU 40 polyurethane adhesive; remember that the wall surface must be level and free of dust and other dirt. After applying PU 40 and installing the piece, we recommend waiting the manufacturer's suggested curing time before releasing the area for use. For mortar, always use white ACII, as per the brands suggested in the topics below.

Product recommendation: Hybrid glue AK 100 – AKEMI, TK PU40 white – AKEMI, PU 40 multi gray – Barone, PU 40 – Tekbond

Flooring installation: For indoor and outdoor flooring, we recommend using mortar with high chemical adhesion and flexible properties. For grouting, we recommend waterproof and flexible grout. Although this product is very hard, it has low thermal expansion, so it is essential to respect the expansion joints between floors and between the floor and walls.

Recommendation: Quartzo D Mortar – AKEMI, ACIII White Flexible Cementitious Mortar – Quartzolit, Votoran White ACIII Internal/External Votomassa Mortar. AKEMI Flexible Super Polymer Premium Grout, Quartzolit Epoxy Grout.

Post-construction cleaning and protection: All post-construction cleaning must be carried out using water and neutral detergent to remove residue. The use of acidic detergents is not permitted, as this type of detergent damages the waterproofing protection and the resin layer applied to the pores and fractures of the rock.

Recommendation: Post-construction floor cleaning detergent – ​​Bellinzonni, PCS Alkaline – Piso Clean, Basic Cleaner detergent – ​​AKEMI brand, Alka Flor - Chemistone brand.

Post-construction protection: For this material, it is not necessary to apply water repellents after construction, just cleaning with water and neutral detergent.
