Patagonia processing techniques
This Brazilian material has great commercial appeal due to its eccentricity, composed of quartz, mica, and feldspar minerals that cover large dimensions. Its translucency, provided by large quartz crystals, is excellent for decorating vertical backlit panels in environments such as dining rooms, offices, bathrooms, and high-end powder rooms. This pegmatite, composed of granite quartz, mica, feldspar, and accessory minerals, has a unique history in its geological formation process, and may contain minerals such as garnet, tourmaline, and zircon. Its irregular mix of light tones (white, beige, gray) with dark contrasts (black/brown) and translucent areas of quartz.

This material must be moved with extreme caution, as the minerals are fragile and can cause cracks if moved abruptly.
Cutting Method: to ensure cutting quality, we recommend using diamond blades, cup saws, and grinding wheels made with soft metallic bonds. In Brazil, we suggest Pyramid model PR30 (same used in Dekton), Performance Model PS 32 – 350mm,
Sealing at cutting areas: As it is a product with very low water absorption and few pores, it is not necessary to waterproof the surface, we only recommend protecting the cutting areas such as sink mouths, faucet holes, trash cans, grills and others.

NOTE: It's important to strictly follow the manufacturer's recommended glue-catalyst ratio. Remember that in mild temperatures, the glue requires a little more time to cure. It's important to remove the protective screen at the cutting site to ensure full adhesion of the glue.
Installation of vertical panels: For installing vertical panels, bench tops, and baseboards, we recommend using PU 40 polyurethane adhesive; remember that the wall surface must be level and free of dust and other dirt. After applying PU 40 and installing the piece, we recommend waiting the manufacturer's suggested curing time before releasing the area for use. For mortar, always use white ACII, as per the brands suggested in the topics below.
Product recommendation: Hybrid glue AK 100 – AKEMI, TK PU40 white – AKEMI, PU 40 multi gray – Barone, PU 40 – Tekbond
NOTE: In the case of backlit panels, we recommend placing a translucent white canvas between the LED panel and the piece to prevent the LED from appearing in front of the panel when it is lit.
Floor installation: This material isn't widely used for flooring, but for installations, we recommend using mortar with high chemical adhesion and flexible properties. For grouting, we recommend a waterproof and flexible product. Although this product is very hard, it has low thermal expansion, so it's essential to respect the expansion joints between floors and between the floor and walls.
Recommendation: Quartzo D Mortar – AKEMI, ACIII White Flexible Cementitious Mortar – Quartzolit, Votoran White ACIII Internal/External Votomassa Mortar. AKEMI Flexible Super Polymer Premium Grout, Quartzolit Epoxy Grout.
NOTE: Although it is highly scratch resistant, this material is not recommended for outdoor flooring, as it can yellow over time.
Post-installation cleaning and protection: All post-construction cleaning must be carried out using water and neutral detergent to remove residue. The use of acidic detergents is not permitted, as this type of detergent damages the waterproofing protection and the resin layer applied to the pores and fractures of the rock.
Recommendation: Post-construction floor cleaner detergent – Bellinzonni, PCS Alkaline – Piso Clean, Basic Cleaner detergent – AKEMI brand, AlkaFlor - ChemiStone brand.
Post-installation protection: For this material, it is not necessary to apply water repellents after construction, just cleaning with water and neutral detergent.
