Ocean Blue Quartzite Processing Techniques
The Ocean Blue Quartzite is a metamorphic quartzite with high mineralogical purity, characterized by a white background with a subtle bluish tone and natural mineral movement that gives the stone a sophisticated and exclusive appearance. Its elegant look and homogeneous crystalline structure make this material highly valued in contemporary architectural projects.
It is a high-quality ornamental quartzite, formed predominantly by quartz and accessory minerals that contribute to its characteristic blue coloration.
Average Mineral Composition
Quartz: 84%
Muscovite: 8%
Dumortierite: 6%
Sericite: <1%
Chlorite: <1%
The presence of dumortierite, the mineral responsible for the bluish coloration, is an important distinguishing feature of this quartzite and gives the material its unique visual identity.

Petrographic Characteristics
Group: Metamorphic
Classification: Quartzite
Texture: Granoblastic, granular
Grain size: Fine to medium (0.2 mm to 1.6 mm)
Structure: Massive and homogeneous
The stone presents an equigranular texture and compact structure, with a predominance of anhedral quartz exhibiting undulatory extinction and irregular contacts between crystals.
Muscovite occurs as well-developed lamellae dispersed throughout the mineral matrix, while dumortierite appears in thin, anastomosing layers with strong pleochroism in shades of blue.
Sericite is disseminated throughout the stone in association with muscovite, while chlorite occurs as small greenish flakes.
Microscopically, the rock exhibits a fine-grained, hypidiomorphic phaneritictexture, typical of high-grade metamorphic quartzites.
Technical Properties
Hardness: 7 on the Mohs scale → high scratch resistance
Chemical resistance: High
Mineral structure: Compact and stable
Geological behavior: Dense and homogeneous material with no effervescence when exposed to diluted HCl, indicating the absence of carbonates.

INFORMATION FOR FABRICATORS (Stone Workers)
Recommended Finishes
Polished: enhances the chromatic depth of the bluish background and the natural mineral movement.
Leathered: provides an elegant satin finish that enhances the natural texture of the stone.
Honed: creates a sophisticated matte finish widely used in contemporary projects.
Processing and Cutting
Due to its high quartz concentration, the use of high-performance diamond tools is recommended.
Because of the presence of lamellar minerals such as muscovite, special attention is recommended during cutting and polishing to minimize the risk of micro-delamination.
Sealing
Although the material is dense and has low absorption, preventive sealing is recommended for countertops and high-use surfaces.
Recommended Products:
Rock Protect – Chemistone
Idea Gold – Bellinzoni
Nano Effect – AKEMI
Adhesive Bonding
Recommended Adhesives:
AK 100 – AKEMI
PU 40 branca – AKEMI
PU 40 Multi Cinza – Barone
PU 40 – Tekbond
INSTALLATION
Installation on vertical panels:
Use PU 40 polyurethane adhesive, ensuring that the surface is properly leveled and clean before application.
Allow the curing time recommended by the manufacturer before releasing the area for use.
Floor installation:
A flexible adhesive mortar with high chemical adhesion is recommended.
Recommended Mortars:
Quartzo D mortar – AKEMI
White Flexible ACIII Mortar – Quartzolit
Votomassa ACIII Mortar – Votoran
Recommended Grouts:
Premium Super Polymer Grout – AKEMI
Epoxy Grout – Quartzolit
Post-installation cleaning and protection
Clean the surface using water and neutral detergent.
Avoid acidic products, as they may compromise the sealer applied to the stone.
Recommended Products:
Bellinzoni Floor Cleaning Detergent
PCS Alcalino – Piso Clean
Basic Cleaner – AKEMI
After cleaning, it is recommended to apply sealer to the entire surface, including edges, to help protect the material against moisture infiltration.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR END USERS (Attention: Family Members and Household Staff)
Final User Care Guidelines
Reapply the sealer every 12 months.
Avoid abrasive cleaning products.
Do not cut directly on the stone surface without using a cutting board.
Avoid placing hot cookware directly on the surface.
Avoid dragging utensils or objects that may scratch the stone.
Quickly remove potentially staining liquids such as wine, coffee, lemon juice, ketchup, and similar substances.
With proper care, the Ocean Blue Quartzite can maintain its beauty and technical performance for decades, preserving the aesthetic value of the architectural project.
