Crystal Noir Quartzite Processing Techniques
The Crystal Noir Quartzite s a high-end metamorphic quartzite characterized by an intense dark gray background with striking white veins and contrasting movement that creates a strong visual impact. Its crystalline structure gives the stone a sophisticated and contemporary appearance, making it widely used in luxury projects that call for dramatic aesthetics and elegance.
Petrographic Classification
Group: Metamorphic
Group: Metamorphic
Average Mineral Composition
Quartz: 99%
Sericite: 1%
The extremely high concentration of quartz accounts for its excellent mechanical performance and high resistance to wear.
Technical Properties
Hardness: 7 on the Mohs scale → extremely scratch-resistant.
Water absorption: 0.147% → very low.
Apparent porosity: 0.388% → low.
Dry apparent density: 2,643 kg/m³.
Axial compressive strength: 117.86 MPa.
Flexural strength: 20.21 MPa.
Abrasion resistance (ASTM C241): excellent performance for areas with moderate to heavy traffic.
Coefficient of Thermal Expansion:
Heating: 3.30 × 10⁻³ mm/m °C
Cooling: 3.15 × 10⁻³ mm/m °C
Crystal Noir combines high-contrast aesthetics with reliable structural performance, making it suitable for countertops, kitchen islands, vertical wall panels, interior flooring, and distinctive architectural projects.
INFORMATION FOR FABRICATORS (Stone Workers)
Recommended Finishes
Polished: enhances the contrast between the dark gray background and the white veins, intensifying the visual depth of the stone.
Leathered: provides a sophisticated satin finish, helps minimize visible signs of use, and enhances the natural texture of the stone.
Honed: creates an elegant matte appearance, ideal for contemporary environments.
Flamed + Brushed: recommended for exterior applications where a slip-resistant surface is required.
Processing and Cutting
Due to its high hardness, this quartzite requires high-performance diamond tools, such as Diapar DP-Quartz blades or equivalent products.
The intense movement of the veins may create areas with natural microfractures. When necessary, reinforcement with epoxy resin is recommended before polishing.
Accepts straight cuts and special moldings without additional technical difficulty.
Sealing
Despite low absorption, preventive waterproofing is recommended on countertops and high-use areas.
Recommended Products:
Brasil:
Rock Protect – Chemistone
Nano Effect – AKEMI
Idea Gold – Bellinzoni
International Markets:
Proseal – Tenax
Stain-Proof – Dry-Treat
Idea Gold – Bellinzoni
Procedure:
Apply to a clean, dry surface with a brush or roller.
Waterproof edges and cuts before installation.
Reapply every 2–3 years in high-use areas.
Adhesive Bonding
Use high-adhesion epoxy/polyester glues (Tenax Fix Top, Bellinzoni Blitz Mastique, Argacon Marmofix).
For improved aesthetic results at seams, adhesives may be pigmented in dark tones, such as black or graphite, to better match the stone.
INSTALLATION
Countertops: provide support approximately every 60 cm using metal brackets and bond with white PU40 polyurethane adhesive.
Interior and exterior flooring: use white ACIII high-performance adhesive mortar.
Apply flexible grout and a final water-repellent sealer after the mortar has cured.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Routine cleaning: use a damp cloth and neutral detergent.
Avoid: abrasive cleaning products and strong acids or alkaline chemicals, such as muriatic acid and caustic soda.
Post-construction cleaning: use appropriate cleaning products, such as Quartzolit Post-Construction Cleaner, PCS Alkaline by Piso Clean, or Bellinzoni Floor Cleaning Detergent.
FINAL CONSIDERATIONS
The Crystal Noir Quartzite s a natural stone with a strong visual identity, an extremely high quartz concentration, and reliable technical performance. Its low water absorption and high mechanical strength make it particularly suitable for premium interior applications, especially in projects that require contrast, visual impact, and sophistication.
