Black Volcom processing techniques

The Black Volcon is a metamorphic schist, predominantly black with quartz veins and the presence of iron hydroxide, which gives the veins an orange color. It is composed of approximately 45% quartz, 27% biotite (black mica), 10% muscovite (white mica), 8% chlorite, 5% cordierite, and opaque minerals. Due to its low quartz content and high biotite and muscovite content, it is classified as a 6 on the Mohs scale. This material lends itself well to brushed textures, where it stands out in the intense, high-relief veins left by quartz, the hardest mineral in its composition. Its exuberance of striking colors makes it a standout for use in countertops, gourmet islands, vertical panels, and tables. Its low porosity allows it to be applied in areas directly exposed to water. Considering its predominant dark/black color resulting from the mica content, we do not recommend installation in outdoor areas or areas exposed directly to the sun.

INFORMATION TO THE MANUFACTURER (marbler)

Black Volcon is a material that requires some simple care, but it makes a difference when manufacturing marble pieces. When making cuts, pay attention to when the blade enters or exits the quartz veins. The saw's feed speed should be limited to the hardness of the quartz. In other words, we recommend using the same feed speed used for cutting quartzite (1.2 m/min with a sharp tool).

Product technical data

Note: This material can be processed in polished, brushed, honed textures. In both finishes, it is necessary to use color intensifiers to activate the maximum color of the mafic minerals (dark/black).

Cutting Method: to ensure the quality of cuts and grinding, we recommend diamond discs, saws, cups and grinding wheels made of soft metal alloy. In Brazil, we recommend tools from PS32M, and Pyramid PR 30 models.

Color reactivation and surface protection: The color activation behavior of this material is related to the content of black and white micas (biotite and muscovite), requiring the application of products to reactivate the material's color. Repeated application will vary depending on the location and intensity of use.

Ex.: In gourmet islands, color reactivation should occur after 4 to 5 years of use, on countertops used daily, every two years of use.

In both scenarios, we recommend the following products:

AKKEMI color enhancer and water repellent – ​​Darkner Plus;

TENAX Color Intensifier – AGER;

Bellizoni Color Intensifier – Intense.

Adhesive bonding: to ensure the best adhesion quality, we recommend the following adhesives:

Brazil and abroad: Adhesives such as Fix Top components A and B, Tenax brand, Blitz Mástique, Bellinzonni brand, Marmofiz, Argacon brand.

NOTE: It is important to strictly follow the proportion of glue + catalyst recommended by the manufacturers. In this case, we recommend using a pigment to match the color pattern of the material.

Installation on sink countertops: We recommend installing countertops made of this material with corner brackets every 70 cm. Fixing should be done with gray or black PU40 polyurethane glue. Do not use industrial silicone, as this glue may stain the countertop surface.

Laying of internal and external floors. The mortar should be installed with ACIII mortar. After installation, grout with black flexible grout. After the mortar has cured, we recommend applying a layer of one of the revitalizers mentioned above.

Post-installation cleaning and protection: All post-construction cleaning must be carried out using water and neutral detergent to remove residue; the use of acidic detergents is not permitted, as this type of detergent damages the waterproofing protection applied to the parts.
