Kouros is a granite characterized by its rich dark gray hue with dramatic white veins running through its surface, creating an elegant and sophisticated contrast. This high-quality material is widely used with a brushed finish, making it an excellent choice for a variety of applications.
Kouros' distinctive appearance adds a touch of luxury and contemporary style to any space, making it a standout in both residential and commercial projects.
Kouros processing techniques
Kouros is a metamorphic rock – altered granite, predominantly dark gray and dark green, with coarse grain sizes between 2mm and 15cm. Its mineralogical composition favors the specification of this material for areas exposed to heat, considering Plagioclase (50%) and Chlorite (25%). This material is well suited for places such as outdoor floors, kitchen countertops, and fireplaces due to its heat resistance and low porosity. It is also noted that this product adapts very well to a brushed finish, highlighting the difference in hardness between the minerals and creating excellent reliefs in its texture.
USEFUL INFORMATION FOR THE MANUFACTURER (marble worker)
NoticeAlthough this material has metamorphic rock characteristics, it cannot be compared to quartzite in terms of specifications and manufacturing because it has lower hardness. However, when preparing the cut, we must use the same tools as for quartzite. This material has small veins in the slab that can open when subjected to force during the cutting process within the marble workshop.
Beneficiation data
The correct selection of input materials for manufacturing this product directly determines the production cost and the final quality of the manufactured part. Assuming the equipment used is in good condition, the cooling system water is clean, and there is no solid waste circulating through it, the following are recommendations for the input materials required for successful processing:
Cutting methodology: to ensure the quality of cuts and grinding, we recommend diamond discs, saws, cups and grinding wheels made of soft metal alloy. In Brazil, we recommend tools from Pyramid model PR30 (same used in Dekton), Performance Model PS 32 – 350mm,
Waterproofing in the cutting area: As it is a material with very low water absorption, it is not necessary to use water repellents in the cutting areas, however, after finishing we recommend using a product to intensify the color of the material.
Product recommendation: Intense by Bellinzonni / Idea Dark, Bellinzonni / Darkener Plus by AKEMI / or Ager by Tenax,
Gluing the pieces: To ensure the quality of the gluing of the pieces, we recommend the following glues:
Brazil and abroad: Platinum, by AKEMI / Titanium, by Tenax or Spezial tak, by Bellinzonni
NOTE: It is important to strictly follow the proportion of glue + catalyst recommended by the manufacturers. In this case, we recommend using a pigment to match the color pattern of the material.
